About
It was that fateful year of 2020. The pandemic. The first and, hopefully, the last in our lifetimes.
Sitting at home and thinking about everything and nothing, music was constantly playing in the background. And whatever you listen to long enough, sooner or later you become part of some algorithm. Some format.
If you turn on a “regular” radio station, chances are you’ll get polished news, forced humor, and music that tries with all its might to appeal to everyone. Everything is tailored to the imagined “average listener.”
But we are not average listeners. And we know we’re not the only ones.
We love discovering new music more than endlessly recycling hits from fifty years ago. We are rebels. Too often to our own detriment. But we have a backbone and an attitude we don’t give up on. That’s why we make our daily review, that’s why original podcasts are born, that’s why we still strive to make radio a place where you’ll hear something you didn’t expect.
Years of patchwork have shown us that even like this, we can gather people who don’t want just another copy of everything that already exists.
And since we’re old enough and experienced enough to know that you can’t live off alternative alone, we’ve directed our enthusiasm toward something much more tangible—activism.
Behind us are benefit concerts, festivals, fundraising for families in need, actions for children who needed help the most, and two editions of a compilation of the independent domestic scene. There will be a third. And a fourth. Because music doesn’t stop. On the contrary.
If you help Undergrand survive, you’re not just helping one internet radio. You’re helping everything that grows out of it. And if one day you join us in one of our actions, all the better.
Undergrand has no alternative.
Undergrand IS the alternative.
