Radio Purepero has a rich history dating back to the early days of radio transmission. The first radio receiver arrived in Purépero around 1930, making radio accessible to the public. In the 1950s, Valente Guillen and Rafael Mora built a small transmitter, XEPM, which broadcast music, recitations, sports, official events, and even commercial advertising. Later, in the 1960s, the station became XEBSR, serving a rural social welfare center and seeking official operating permits. Despite technical challenges and the eventual closure of the center, the spirit of broadcasting continued with figures like Dr. Alfonso Capilla Fernández and Arnulfo Amezcua operating transmitters in the 1970s.
